Greetings Angling Friends,
The 2010-11 season really isn't that far off. In fact, early inquiries suggest anglers are selecting and establishing fall trip dates early. We are adding several new Brazil destinations this season in addition to our Bell of the Amazon Yacht and the Floating Junglelows Camp.
The Big News out of Brazil is this...both the Speckled and Butterfly IGFA records are under challenge:
Peacock, speckled
Cichla temensis
27 lbs. 0 oz. - 12.24 kgs
Rio Negro Brazil
12/4/1994 12:00:00 AM
Gerald Lawson
Peacock, butterfly
Cichla ocellaris
12 lbs. 9 oz. - 5.71 kgs
Chiguao River Venezuela
1/6/2000 12:00:00 AM
Antonio Campa G.
On Feb 9, 2010, angler Bill Gassmann of Des Moines, Iowa, caught a potential World Record Peacock Bass weighing in at 28lbs. The old record was 27lbs caught by Doc Lawson on Dec 4 1994.Gassmann was fishing a clown colored Luhr Jensen Big Game Woodchopper Slim and was fishing a tributary of the Upper Rio Negro in the Brazilian Amazon.
Gassmann's guide, Aldeni "Elvis" Fonseca immediately knew the significance of the catch and urged Gassmann to return to the Mothership. The peacock measured 37 inches long with a girth of 25 inches and is pending certification by the IGFA.
