Saltwater
Little River
Trout and redfish are moving from their winter grounds towards open channels and the
jetty. Find the warmest layers of moving water around structure and you should be on the
fish. Cherry Grove Pier: Some good sized whiting are sporadically running off the pier
and lots of little flounder are also being caught, but the keeper ratio is poor.
Grand Strand
Perry's Bait and Tackle reports that lots of flounder are being caught in Murrells Inlet.
The bite for spottail bass has also been excellent on mud minnows, Carolina rigged or
fished on a jighead. Blues and Spanish mackerel are all over the beaches. Bull red drum
are being caught off the beach at the south end of Litchfield, and off boats fishing the
end of the North Jetty wall in Murrells Inlet. Fresh cut mullet and sections of blue
crabs are popular baits for bull drum.
Charleston
Sheepshead: Good to very good. Haddrell's Point reports that the sheepshead fishing
continues at nearshore reefs, the jetties and around bridge pilings. Fiddler crabs, clam
strips and oysters fished with a vertical presentation will all work. Spottail Bass:
Good. Haddrell's Point reports spottail bass are starting to be caught under docks and
along rock piles, as well as continuing to be found on the shallow coastal flats. Gulp!
shrimp, ZMAN streakz spiced up with Pro-Cure scents, and of course live mud minnows are
all working. Trout: Fair. Haddrell's Point reports that guides targeting trout have been
making consistent catches free-lining DOA shrimp near shell banks in 6-8 feet of water.
Flounder: Fair. Haddrell's Point reports that now is the time to start targeting
flounder in shallow water inlets. Most catches are coming on live mud minnows Carolina
rigged on the bottom.
Beaufort
Bay Street Outfitters reports that spottail bass are tailing well in the Beaufort area.
On low tide there has also been some good sight fishing, with some of the fish moving in
schools while others are spread out. Cobia fishing is fair, although the majority of the
cobia so far seem to be on the small side.
