The Memorial Day weekend rains did not keep all boaters off the water, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. In general, activity was mild with 18 boating under the influence arrests and eight (8) total boating incidents. Most of the boating incidents were considered minor with minor injuries (if any injuries). However, one unfortunate incident near the Tybee Island area resulted in the death of a 38 year-old female. In addition to boating-related incidents, four (4) total drownings were reported.
