Our kids spend more and more time in front of screens and less time outside. On average, 8-18 year olds spend nearly 8 hours per day with “screens.” There is good news. Recent information from the Outdoor Foundation says that fishing is the #1 gateway activity to get a child to love the outdoors for a lifetime! June 5-13 marks National Fishing & Boating Week (NFBW). We want to use this time to encourage families to get outside with their kids. Throughout the week, 37 states are offering “Free Fishing Days.” Find one at www.TakeMeFishing.org. Also find a participating marina during Boat.Fish.Live. at National Marina Day, June 12. This year, nine marinas across the country are offering consumers the opportunity to participate in boating and fishing demonstrations, educational activities, test drives and more. Boat.Fish.Live. at National Marina Day is the perfect opportunity for those interested in boating and fishing to test out the waters before purchasing a boat or fishing gear. Help us get the word out. We thought it would be great to share what kids really think about boating and fishing. Check out this video “made by kids for kids,” www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8DQaRcXpZw and feel free to share with others.
