BEAR LAKE: (August 19) Biologist Scott Tolentino reports that the surface water temperature on Bear Lake is 68 degrees. Fishing has improved in the last week. We've received reports of anglers catching cutthroat trout and a few lake trout off the Gus Rich Point/rockpile area. They were in about 65 feet of water, using Rapalas off downriggers right above the bottom. Some of the cutts weighed about five pounds, and the lakers ranged from three to ten pounds. Anglers (both boat and shore) are still catching rainbow trout along the state park marina and off the shoreline to the south of the marina. They are hitting PowerBait and worms, and will also go after small spoons. You can launch a boat at the Utah State Park marina and at the First Point, Cisco Beach and Rainbow Cove ramps. Along the east side, fishing for cutthroat has been fair off of Cisco Beach and good off of the scout camp.
